After 15 years of existence as a sub-urban art space in the center of Rotterdam, the Suburban PS, formerly known as the Suburban Video Lounge, will ceased to exist in it current form, and make room for some new development.
No more enigmatic artists’ films, long to very long shots, dazzling video art or any other projected light in the comfortable dark space on the way to the toilet, no more art in the basement. While our host the Urban Espresso Bar will expand into the downstairs area, we will focus on developing new projects elsewhere.
To close it off in style we will celebrate the rich history with an evening of artist video, special sounds, rare drinks and some bites in the Urban Espresso Bar East at the Botersloot 44a.
Last Screening: Feel at home with the award winning work Things by award winning artist/filmmaker Ben Rivers.
Performances: The Dial-Up Choir celebrates the history of the internet and the lost sounds of a 56K modem. With a.o. Max Dovey and Yoana Buzova. Sound performance by dzum, aka Mariëtte Groot, a one-woman-music project turning out slightly different with every performance. Some clues: abstract song-writing, playful instrumentation (keyboard synths, samples, tapes, small acoustic instruments and voice) and some ad hoc improvisations.
